Back in April 2009, a large amount of items owned by Michael Jackson at his Neverland Ranch were set to be auctioned by Julien's Auctions.
The collection was so vast that five exhibition catalogs were needed to document all the items. However, at the last minute, the King of Pop pulled the plug on the auction and the items were sent back to storage.
Now an exhibit of photographs showcasing many of Michael Jackson's personal belongings from the cancelled auction will be on display in New York. It was announced on Monday that photographer Henry Leutwyler will display selections from his series "Neverland Lost – A Portrait of Michael Jackson" at the Foley Gallery from February 24-April 6, 2011.
There will be an opening reception and book signing on February 24 from 6-8 pm. On March 17, there will be an artist presentation and Q&A.
"Michael Jackson sacrificed his childhood to singing and stardom," Leutwyler told the London Daily Times. "Neverland, later in his life, was the pyramid he constructed to that lost childhood. These are the artifacts of that lost childhood. We will never see the like of Michael Jackson today."
The items photographed range from Jackson's iconic white glove to a crown for the King of Pop and clothing items from famous performances.
